Art and Movies and Music oh My! Nov. 10-14 part 1

So much stuff to do this weekend and so little time!

Let's break it down into some categories shall we?
ARTSCHMART

Holy Crap JOHN PAUL GAULTIER exhibit opens the 13th at the Dallas Museum of Art!

oh Dita Von Teese! I lurve you so.

"The Fashion World of John Paul Gaultier" exhibiting 130 pieces of his work from the 70's until now. The fancy schmancy member's events are all this week but it opens to the public the 14th ( their page says the 13th but their closed on Mondays,Jerks). The Late Night party on Friday the 18th will involve the exhibit as well if you want to hold off for that.

At Dallas Contemporary there is an exhibit showing tattoo photography by and a documentary  about tattoo artist Jason Brooks which looks pretty awesome. The exhibit closes December 4th so hurry up and get over there.

In Fort Worth there is some buzz about Sarah Green's  exhibit at Artspace 111. You can pick up a copy of FW Weekly for the full write up on the ole cover (or you can click here)

For those of you with kiddos The Amon Carter is having a Family Funday on Sunday (ew that's so rhymey) so there will be activities for childrens and as always it's free. Ok enough about art.

MOVIESSSS

First of all can I say I'm so pissed noone is  playing "This is Spinal Tap" this weekend near here on 11/11/11. It's playing in San Antonio and Austin but not here harumph.

Good news though the Lone Star International Film Festival is this weekend which is always fantastic. The movies they are showing that I personally am excited about are
  • "High Road" the directorial debut of Upright Citizen's brigade's Matt Walsh ( or you may know as the doctor from "The Hangover") ok I can't actually watch the trailer for this right now because it's red band but you can check it out here.
  • "The Artist" because when Chris Kelly  put on his Movie You Haven't head of  festival at The Modern he said he tried to get this movie but could not because of complications involving some big festival in NewYork.
  • "We Need To Talk About Kevin" because it looks extra creepy like a movie version of the "Jeremy" video (without the whole suicide bit or maybe I don't know) also because Tilda "She looka like a man" Swinton is awesome
  • "Slacker 2011" which is sort of a sequel  to the original "Slacker" about Austin Directed by Richard Linkletter who I like a lot. I liked "Waking Life" more but I  digress (btw the Slacker link is to the movie in it's entirety on YouTube and not just some hack splitting it up like the whole movie so check it out)
  • Most importantly the Modern Art Museum is playing HBO documentary " Paradise Lost 3" on Friday which will tell the full story of the West Memphis Three from 1993 until their recent release from prison. There will also be a Q&A with producer Jonathan Silberberg BTW I will be working a bar at this event because nothing helps you stomach the injustice of our country's legal system like a couple of glasses of alcohol. So come say Hi.

  • AND AND AND on Friday, Piper "First the blood then the boys" Laurie and Bettie Buckley will present a showing of "Carrie". Holy crap I love this movie you have no idea. Obviously  I'm working though  which is lucky because I don't think I could choose between the two.
creepiest scene everrrrr

Anyway movies and showtimes are all over the place so check out the LSIFF page to buy tickets. p.s their site is very confusing so look for the picture of Tilda to scroll by and click it to get you to a page where you can search the movie you need tickets for.

MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC part 1

As usual there are quite a few sweet local shows going on this weekend. I'm trying not to repeat the same bands over and over but chances are A. You might not have checked them out yet when I mentioned them the first time B. You might be totally not paying that much attention C. Maybe you did see them and you want to see them again so without further ADIEU

Thursdays are free free- Skeleton Coast and Phantom Caste are playing at 8.0's for free at 7. And the Dancetastic Ishi is playing at Basement Bar. This show costs $5.00 but if you mention their Facebook ad you can get in for free ( here's the ad btw so you can actually mention the ad without being a liar ) Also it's my buddy Minaz's birthday - Happy birthday Minaz!

Friday at Club Dada  Sphynx | Sunward | Cowboy Indian Bear are playing. I have only heard some clips of Sunward and they sound legit ( plus the description said space rock which is one of my most favorite musical genres) Here's a dreamy Cowboy Indian Bear video.

So I don't have time to tell you about all the shows this weekend today but I've got you caught up to Friday with stuff to do so come back tomorrow. KTHANXBYE
