Too Much Awesome for one Weekend 10/4- 10/7

It's October Yayyyyyyyyy!! It's all nice and shit outside and Halloween is coming up! So this weekend starts  a month full of a massive amount of awesome bands coming through as well as all our fave local bands playing often.

Start your Thursday off with the first edition of Boomnanza!! Oil Boom plays the Basement Bar for free with War Party. Go ahead and prep for the following editions of Boomnanza where Oil Boom plays with Birds of Night on the 18th (omg!! two of my favorite songs of all time this year picks in one place) and The Longshots on Nov. 1st.

Or at Lola's you can checkout Solo Sol, Mailman, and Siberian Trap.

On Friday ish really starts to get cray in Dallas with Index fest. A two day festival that includes an insane amount of bands: Heartless Bastards, Portugal the Man, Cold War Kids, Grimes, Surfer Blood, Dale Earnhart Jr. Jr., it's almost overwhelming. Plus a good chunk of our local talent: Blackstone Rangers, Datahowler, Air Review, The Cush and they may not be considered local but one of the best live acts in Texas, Quiet Company. One day passes are $28 or you can get two day passes for only ten bucks more.

There is one non music event I would recommend checking out this weekend. You know those sweet videos of chicks doing those really super complex pole performances. Well Friday and Saturday Miss Texas Polestar competition is going on at Lakewood Theatre and I personally think it looks cool as hell. You can see the competition as well as attend work shops to have the most ridiculous core of anyone ever.

If you want to hang with me Friday I will be at the Lola's seeing what's been dubbed "math rock night" with Babar, Feuding Fathers, Boyfrndz, and Cleanup. Cleanup has undergone some lineup changes so I'm anticipating seeing what they're like now.

On Saturday I'm planning on going to the Big D for Bryan Street Tavern's big Anniversary party. This event also boasts hella bands and it's free: Fungi Girls, The O's, Turbo Fruits, White Mystery, Royal Bangs, Those Darlings, Spookeasy and that's just a few. Frigging ridiculous. Did I mention there's no cover. Yea. Wth

Finally on Sunday if you aren't exhausted from any of this prior awesomeness Quaker City Night Hawks , Big Mike Box O Rock, and Secret Ghost Champion are playing Wild Rooster.

Speaking of Secret Ghost champion a couple of weeks ago they posted this gem on Sound Cloud. Listen to it yo.

Also St. Vincent and David Byrne will be at McFarlin Auditorium which should be an amazing performance.

Alright childrens I hope there's something in there that you end up going to. And whether you go to any of these or not make sure and show your local music support by voting for all your favorite locals in the Dallas Observer Music Awards. Several of my favorites are nominated.
