Top Five Places to go this Weekend 5/19-5/21

So Ima just give you guys some of the best pics of what to do this week because that's what I have time for.

Friday on the Green

Last week I told you to go to Friday on the Green but it was postponed because of rain and ish so Hey Guys you totes go to Friday on the Green this week with Hannah Barbarians, Quaker City Night Hawks and the Will Callers. Chill on the lawn with some Rahr beers and watch 80 kids begin a new generation of music love.

And if you need to bring a lamp ( like this lady did) then go for it

Arts Goggle

Saturday from 4-10 head back to Near Southside for Arts Goggle. ( btw Near Southside is sort of lame name. Where is it. Oh it's Near Southside. It's not actually Southside though it's just close oh and btw a shit ton of stuff goes on there so you might have to repeatedly say Near Southside. The area is the best though I'm not dissing that. Point being Ima start referring to it as Little Portland and you guys will know what I'm talking about ok. Glad we had this talk)  So I've actually never managed to make it to Arts Goggle but from what I know it's a big huge mish mash of most of the businesses in Little Portland being open and local Artists selling crafts and art. It's like Main Street Arts festival but cooler and more affordable. Btdub attending the event is free. A bunch of local bands are playing at various locations.

The program for Arts Goggle is kind of um well full so let me just list out who's playing and where:

One of the artist at Avoca is my buddy Sarah Zamora so someone tell her I said hey and then buy her stuff because she is awesome.

The Soft opening of Live Oak studios will be during Arts Goggle with Calhoun playing at 6 and Seryn playing at 8. Live Oak's opening is kind of a big deal. If you missed the big article about music in Fort Worth in FWWeekly you should read it here because there are more deets about what should become of Live Oak etc.

Dallas Comicon

Before Art Goggle or on Sunday Comicon Dallas is going down. Almost as exciting as Frightmare weekend. Ok FINNNE it's just as exciting because you can meet FREAKING STAN LEE!!! and Summer Glau ( from Firefly) and Patrick Stewart and the dudes who played Chewbacca and Boba Fett and obviously a bunch of comic book peoples. Plus the people watching alone would be fun. That runs Saturday and Sunday starting at 11 and it's only around 20 bucks. Scoreee.

All I can think about when I envision nerdy dudes meeting Summer Glau is this scene in Big Bang Theory

Hands On Art Body

Saturday night Fort Worth Art collective Homecoming Committee is gracing Dallas with it's presence at Oliver Francis Gallery. Hands on Art Body is actually an art acquisition competition where whoever is the last one standing touching an art piece gets to keep the that piece. Even if you don't want any of the pieces it should be quite entertaining to watch. This Glasstire write up gives all the details and talks about homecoming's upcoming events and where the title came from. Red bull is one of the event sponsors so be prepared to party into the wee hours.

Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studio 15 Year Anniversary Party

At 35 Denton I went to Rubber Gloves for the first time in probably twelve years. When I was a wee little rocker in 1999 it was this tiny little place where you had to walk around back to get to one of the scuzziest bathrooms ever. The only shows I specifically remember were Cat Power and Molly Mcguire but I'm sure I saw many more. Now it actually has a bar, the bathrooms are inside, and it still hosts some great bands. It was the place to be for the last night of 35 Denton when Peaking Lights played.

This weekend they celebrate their 15 year anniversary with a jam packed line-up starting at 5:30 and it's free (for 21 and up it looks like 5 bucks for under). Here's the line-up yo. It's pretty damn good.

12:15-1:00 Slobberbone
11:30-12:00 C.S. Flemmons ( Baptist Generals)
10:45-11:15 Dove Hunter
10:00-10:30 Pinkish Black
9:15-9:45 Year of the Bear
8:30-9:00 Occult Detective Club
7:45-8:15 Akkolyte
7:00-7:30 Code Talker
6:15-6:45 Bad Design
5:30-6:00 Banos Y Banos

Pinkish Black just put out an album that is supposedly pretty spectacular so they should definitely be worth seeing.

Alright Homies Thanks for reading!
